Wormy Chestnut Scope

The American chestnut came from virgin wood cut from logs that had lain in the woods since the blight killed the trees, nearly 70 years ago. Logs half buried and covered with moss remain moist and are preserved. The logs came as a byproduct of a hardwood logging operation in 1995, at the head of Bean's Creek in Buladean, Mitchell County, North Carolina.
